Hot on the heels of his impressive list of Grammy, Brit, and NME Award wins, artist and producer of the moment Mark Ronson is set to collaborate with legendary musical innovators Duran Duran. This exciting partnership will form the centerpiece of Smirnoff Experience Paris, set to take place on Wednesday, July 2nd at La Cigale, Paris.

Duran Duran will perform a unique live set with Ronson for this exclusive, invite-only performance. Together, they will showcase specially re-worked versions of some of the band's classic hits that will be created by Ronson, along with tracks from their critically-acclaimed new album, Red Carpet Massacre. Ronson & the Version Players will also be bringing Mark's acclaimed live show to the event, performing songs from his hit album, Version. Premier electronic French label Ed Banger will also add their own magic to the night, with other specially-created Duran Duran remixes being presented by a selection of their hottest artists and DJs. In addition, Smirnoff Experience resident DJ Tom Middleton will also return for a unique performance with Paris-based classical pianist Maxence Cyrin, who will blend interpretations of acid house melodies with ambient beats, taking guests on a trip through some of the sounds that have defined a whole musical generation.

The Smirnoff Experience event series celebrates the best in original nightlife. Alongside headline collaborations, the events offer unique ways of serving Smirnoff cocktails, including the opportunity to choose drinks by smell and by taste. Highlights from the Duran Duran/Mark Ronson collaboration

Duran Duran and Mark Ronson Make Unique Musical History, at Smirnoff Experience Paris Event

July 3rd 2008 – Last night, La Cigale in Paris hosted the third global Smirnoff Experience event, showcasing a dream collaboration between Mark Ronson and Duran Duran, continuing the tradition of unique original performances. The event unveiled live performances of Ronson's reworkings of his favourite Duran Duran classics along with songs from their new album. Highlights included View to A Kill, Rio, Red Carpet Massacre, Planet Earth and Girls on Film, performed by the band together with Ronson. Earlier in the evening, Simon Le Bon provided guest vocals with Daniel Merriweather on Stop Me during Mark Ronson and the Version Players' set.

The 1200-capacity invitation-only event attracted a star-studded crowd including, Eva Mendes, Philippe Starck, John Galliano, Ellen Von Unwerth, Santogold, Kenna, Tim Burgess, Yasmin Le Bon and Daisy Lowe.

During the 90-minute performance the crowd enjoyed specially created versions of classic Duran Duran tracks. The collaboration came about when Smirnoff invited Ronson to bring his unique perspective to the Duran Duran catalogue, forming the centrepiece of this latest Smirnoff Experience event.

Mark Ronson shared of his experience in working with Duran Duran: "This has to be one of the highlights in LIFE for me."

Commenting on the collaboration, Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon said: "There's not that many people on Planet Earth (!) right now who've got what it takes to work with Duran Duran both musically and visually. In fact, when I look at it like that, Mark Ronson may be the only man alive who is. And, being very big fans of his, we couldn't be more thrilled".

Duran Duran bassist, John Taylor, commented: "Mark is one of the most exciting talents in music today. He's a super-nice guy too, which makes it even better. He had a lot of crazy ideas which all seemed to work out. So many, in fact, that what was supposed to be a thirty-minute set turned out to be an hour and a half! And it's great to have his big band wrap themselves around us too, horns, strings and percussion. It was really magical!"

The night opened with the Smirnoff Experience resident DJ Tom Middleton celebrating the 20th anniversary of Acid House music with a unique collaboration. Classically trained pianist Maxence Cyrin from Paris, joined him to create a collection of dance classics performed on a grand piano.

After the live music, the crowd were treated to an original and underground set from Busy P aka Pedro Winter, owner and founder of uber-cool Parisian electronic label Ed Banger Records. Busy P played a DJ set that premiered his Smirnoff Experience rework of Duran Duran's hit The Reflex, before Middleton came back to close the event in his own unique party style.

A series of original Smirnoff cocktails were created specially for the event, including a choice of four martinis, two of which were strawberry basil and melon and mint. The invited guests were offered a special sampler on entering the venue. Bottled water was given out throughout the evening, as well as a plentiful supply of canapés.

Smirnoff Experience is a global experiential marketing program, celebrating the brand's rich heritage and originality. The program features original collaborations fused with unique and interactive entertainment – all showcased in four of the cities most relevant to the history of the brand: Moscow, Shanghai, Paris and New York City.

They tell the strory of classic 1982 album on new DVD

Duran Duran's global smash hit second album 'Rio' is to be revisited as part of a new Classic Albums DVD series this October.
Duran Duran have specially re-recorded the album's key tracks; “Save A Prayer”, “The Chauffeur”, “New Religion”, “Hungry Like The Wolf” and the title track “Rio” live for the DVD -- as well as personally telling the story behind the writing, recording and the aftermath of it's success.
'Classic Albums: Rio' includes stacks of archive footage from the period as well as the newly filmed interviews with original band members Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Roger Taylor.
Other interviewees include director Russell Mulcahy, former manager Paul Berrow and Bob Geldof.
Classic Albums: Rio is out on Eagle Rock Entertainment on October 27, 2008.

ZOOM IN – First song I know of written about experiences living in Second Life.

YO BAD AZIZI – Written during the "Liberty" sessions. The title was taken from a line in the song "Is There Something I Should Know?" -- "you're about as easy as a nuclear war."

VIRUS – The ultimate computer virus anthem

BURIED IN THE SAND – Taken from the "Medazzaland" album, now up on iTunes. This song was a postcard to John Taylor during the time he left the band for a little while.

Duran Duran's Rio has been named the greatest music video of all time.

The 1982 video, featuring the band in suits on a Caribbean beach being teased by scantily-clad women, beat favourites such as Michael Jackson's Thriller and Madonna's Like a Prayer to claim the title.

Bjork's video for her 1999 hit All Is Full of Love, where she played a robot in a steamy clinch with another robot, took second place.

Take On Me, the 1985 video from A-ha, where singer Morten Harket was a comic book character who comes to life, was third, followed by Jackson's famously spooky 1983 hit Thriller.

Icelandic group Sigur Ros's surreal video for Svefn-g-Englar was fifth in the poll of MTV viewers, followed by the anarchic gig scene in Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit (1991).

Radiohead's Just video (1995), featuring a man inexplicably lying down in the street and Jamiroquai's Virtual Insanity (1996), where he danced on a moving floor, were next.

The top ten was completed by Madonna's Like A Prayer (1989), controversial for featuring burning crosses, statues weeping blood and the singer seducing a black Jesus, and US group OK GO's Here It Goes Again (2006), with the band on treadmills.

Around 40,000 MTV viewers voted for the poll.

Если в кратце, то клип Duran Duran "Rio" занял первое место в опросе про видеоклип "всех времен и народов" на MTV , опередив тем самым "Триллер" Майкла Джексона и "Like A Prayer" Мадонны. Второе место - Bjork - "All Is Full of Love". Третьи - A-ha - "Take On Me". Джексон -четвертый, Мадонна - последняя в десятке.

Я в этом опросе поучаствовала совершенно случайно. Поисковик выплюнул страницу британского MTV с голосованием, я чисто машинально выбрала дюранов. Не думала, что они победят, они тогда на шестом месте были - видать, британские фаны активизировались.

Кстати, в рейтингах не только дюраны побеждают, но и их прекрасные половины тоже. Хотя об этом я лучше в Ясину тему напишу.

It has been an amazing year for Duran Duran.

What started out at the end of 2007, on Broadway, and wound down at the end of 2008 in Montclair, New Jersey, has been the best year of touring we've ever had.

We played all over the world, and we got better as we did, and the audiences ... well you were all amazing.

Happy, happy holidays (Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Kwanzaa, Christmahanukah, Happy New Year and all that stuff) to all who visit Duranduran.com, Duranduranmusic and our Duran Duran MySpace page.

We've had a great time and now we're taking a great rest. Speak to you next year.

London's favourite festival - The LOVEBOX Weekender has announced that pop legends Duran Duran and hip hop collective N.E.R.D featuring Pharrell Williams will be joining festival founders Groove Armada as headline acts for the 2009 festival which will take place across the weekend of Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July at London's Victoria Park.

Headlining one of the festival's most eclectic and adventurous line ups to date, Duran Duran will be playing their only UK festival gig of 2009 on the Saturday night supported by rock/rap crossover collective N.E.R.D featuring Pharrell Williams. LOVEBOX will also be showcasing the very best in new and emerging talent with the hotly tipped Florence & The Machine, joining Friendly Fires and Fat Freddys Drop also confirmed for the Saturday night bill.

Sunday night will be headlined by Lovebox founders and sure-fire party starters Groove Armada who will be premiering a brand new live show featuring material from their forthcoming album that promises to set Victoria Park alight, and will be their only 2009 festival appearance. The band will be joined by Simian Mobile Disco and further acts to be confirmed shortly.

Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran said: "We are thrilled to be headlining Saturday night at LOVEBOX for what will be our only UK show this year. The band are big fans of the festival and we were delighted to be asked by Tom and Andy (Groove Armada) to take part. We were on the road for the whole of 2008 and are now back in the studio working on new music. Playing at LOVEBOX in the summer will be a real highlight for us."

Andy Cato and Tom Findlay, the dance gurus behind Groove Armada and LOVEBOX said: "We bumped into Simon Le Bon when playing some tunes at a beach party in Ibiza last year. He had Sienna Miller on one side and a naked fire eater on the other. We had a chat and mentioned that if he fancied playing at LOVEBOX, it would be an absolute pleasure. And now it's official - the biggest London gig of the summer is on. LOVEBOX bring legends to your local park."

In addition to the stellar musical line up, London's most electric and eclectic show-stopping festival has expanded for 2009 with an even bigger 40 acre site that will once again be bursting at the seams with the best new acts, performers, stage sets and special effects from all over the world for what promises to be a carnival of anarchic entertainment.

This year's festival will witness the debut of Container Arcadia - this year's principal soundsystem. This eerie labyrinth of sky-high shipping containers promises to create a monolithic, fire-breathing dockyard featuring LOVEBOX's usual top-notch selection of DJs and electronic music acts such as the mighty Horse Meat Disco and Secretsundaze.

Further features include the Gaymers Stage – featuring London's largest purpose-built tree house for those wanting a bird's eye view of the festival. The stage will play host to a selection of live performances in an intimate setting. For those in need of a spot of outdoor pampering, LOVEBOX will again boast the largest farmer's market of any UK festival - the very best of Borough's stalwarts all wrapped up within thelondonpaper Sourced Market. A new addition for 2009 is Heavenly Healing, a fully comprehensive tented village of massage and complimentary therapies to kick off your weekend in style.

LOVEBOX have also expanded their family stage this year into an entire field of family-friendly stage shows, sideshows and freak shows - all inspired, programmed and produced by some of London's most thrilling theatre and production outfits. From barn-storming hoedowns to gypsy steam punk, take off your shoes and lose yourself in a wonderland of weirdness as LOVEBOX presents this year's dose of carnival chaos in an epic spectacle charged with musical excess and theatrical abundance.

Duran Duran and Mark Ronson record live version of "A View to a Kill" for War Child "Heroes"

DURAN DURAN AND MARK RONSON RECORD STUNNING LIVE VERSION OF "A VIEW TO A KILL" TOGETHER RELEASED EXCLUSIVELY FOR WAR CHILD "HEROES"

Duran Duran have joined music's finest artists in support of the War Child "Heroes" CD by giving the compilation an exclusive live performance of their classic Bond theme, "A View to A Kill," as a bonus track on the album. The version the band have chosen is a collaboration with DJ and Producer Mark Ronson, who arranged and performed the song with Duran Duran during a recent one-off performance at the historic La Cigale theatre in Paris, marking the first time Ronson and the band have played together.

The live arrangement combines not only "A View to A Kill" but also a unique instrumental medley of other classic Bond songs: "Diamonds Are Forever," "Goldfinger" and "You Only Live Twice." This rare recording is available as a bonus track when purchasing the European release of the War Child "Heroes" CD by following download instructions on the album cover or visiting http://www.warchild.org.uk/bonus.

Duran Duran's "A View to A Kill" received acclaim as the only Bond theme song to reach Number 1 in music charts around the world and joins other classic tracks for the "Heroes" compilation, including Elbow's new take on U2's "Running to Stand Still" and Brit award winner Duffy's version of Paul McCartney's "Live and Let Die." Following the "Heroes" concept of "the ultimate covers album" bringing together music's greatest legends and today's best artists, Duran Duran and Mark Ronson were delighted to lend their support. Songbook with Duran Duran to air on Sky on March 26
In a thrilling one-off for the Songbook series on Sky Arts, Duran Duran have recorded in London for a small live audience. Combining some of their greatest hits with new material, and revealing the inspiration behind their music.

Duran Duran, entering the studio for their 13th album, have recently teamed up with Producer Mark Ronson. As visitors to Duranduran.com know, the band first worked with Ronson last summer as part of the Smirnoff Experience Duran Duran & Mark Ronson. La Cigale in Paris played host to the third global Smirnoff Experience event, which featured re-workings of Duran Duran classics to a 1,200-capacity standing-room-only crowd.

For over two decades, Duran Duran have given listeners a catalogue of new music that is both innovative and influential. Working with Ronson is a natural next step for the band, who continue to challenge themselves with each new phase of their career.

Mining the DD catalogue, EMI will be releasing two gems on June 29th (UK)/June 30th (US): The DVD/CD DURAN DURAN – LIVE HAMMERSMITH ‘82! and DURAN DURAN: RIO (2 CD SPECIAL EDITION).

LIVE AT HAMMERSMITH 82! is a much anticipated release among followers of the band. Filmed and recorded in the latter part of 1982 as Duranmania was sweeping England, the performance at London’s Hammersmith Odeon includes “Rio,” “Hungry like the Wolf,” “Girls on Film,” fan favorite “Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)” and more. The release also includes “Rio” era videos and two “Top of the Pops” performances.

The RIO 2 CD SPECIAL EDITION is made up of the UK release of the “Rio” album, the original US Harvest album remixes (enabling US listens to programme their CD to be able to listen to the original version), Manchester Square demos, B-Sides, remixes and other surprises.
